Bill Young
Bill
Young is a Captain in the United States Air Force and an instructor in the B-52
bomber's "schoolhouse" at Barksdale AFB, LA. In this position, he is responsible
for teaching graduates of pilot and navigator training to fly and employ the Boeing
B-52H Stratofortress. In addition to his official duties, Captain Young is also
Special Assistant to the President, Air Force Cadet/Officer Mentor Action Program
(AFCOMAP). In this capacity, he is responsible for identifying and developing
knowledge systems to support the organization's mentoring programs. He is also
a member of the National Knowledge and Intellectual Capital Management Task Force.
Prior to assuming his current position, Captain Young was assigned to the Pentagon
as part of the prestigious Air Force Intern Program. While at the Pentagon, Capt
Young worked in the Department of Defense's Arms Control Implementation and Compliance
Office. One of his key responsibilities was serving as the DoD focal point for
the export data supporting several treaties and international agreements. Capt
Young also interned in the Air Force's CHECKMATE Strategy Division as Chief of
Electronic Warfare Support, where he helped develop strategy for last year's air
operations in Kosovo.
Captain Young is a 1991 graduate of the United States Air Force
Academy with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering Science (Aeronautical
Engineering track). In 1999, he graduated from George Washington University (GWU)
with a Masters Degree in Organizational Management. While at GWU, he was a consultant
to the Federal Executive Institute and helped develop the organization's Knowledge
Management implementation roadmap for the future. Captain Young was featured in
1999 as one of EBONY magazine's "30 Leaders of the Future." He is a Senior Navigator
with over 1,400 flying hours in the B-52 and is married to the former Debra Thierry
of Lake Charles, LA.
